I am a professional makeup artist based in Southern California. My focus is always first and foremost on skin. My thought is that if someones skin looks bad the rest of the makeup will look bad. Clean no makeup makeup looks are my niche for that reason. I love to create dimension on the face also by using different shades and textures of makeup.
I was a hair color specialist before moving to California so I pay careful attention to what colors and shades will be the most flattering on my clients. My first lesson in color theory was at beauty school by a wonderful makeup instructor, Mr. Cross. Mr. Cross had all of us come in to class wearing zero makeup and one by one we each sat in front of the class while he draped different colored fabrics on us. I’ll never forget how different each color appeared on all of us or how bad the bad colors were. That being said I evaluate eye color, hair color, skin color, what someone is wearing (or planning to wear) and carefully choose their makeup based on that.
